Common CSE review mistakes that waste a whole month

Mistake: Reviewing every topic because “it’s all important”

The paper is mixed. Your time is not. If you cannot list three weak topics, you are in this mistake. Fix: diagnostic, sticky note, two-week focus. Everything else is maintenance or later.

Mistake: Highlighting as a personality

Color is not memory. If the page is more highlighter than paper, you are decorating. Replace the last 20 minutes of highlighting with closed-book retrieval: write five facts or solve five items with the notes face down.

Mistake: Collecting reviewers like Pokémon

Every new PDF resets your error log. Pick one Verbal source, one Numerical drill, one GI checklist. Our topic guides plus timed items are enough for a block. Park the rest.

Mistake: Never sitting a timer because you are “not ready”

Readiness is partly a timer skill. If you only solve untimed, you will meet the clock as a stranger. Sit short timed sets first (10–20 items). A full mock can wait until you have skip rules, but *some* timer should show up in week one. See time management.

Mistake: Sitting only full mocks and never drilling

The opposite error: three full mocks, no topic work. You keep missing the same number-sequence pattern at scale. Mocks find leaks. Drills fix them. Alternate.

Mistake: Treating a mock percent as CSC’s 80.00

Mistake: Studying from “leaked” items

If someone sells “actual CSE questions,” that is a scam-adjacent market. CSC does not run a public commercial bank. Using alleged leaks is a legal and ethical problem and a terrible study design (you memorize noise). Original practice items with explanations are the point of this site.

Mistake: Ignoring sleep and calling it dedication

Numerical and Analytical collapse when you are a zombie. One honest sleep night will often move a timed set more than another 80 items at 1 a.m.

Mistake: Waiting for the announcement to start

You do not need the next date to learn error recognition. You need the date to book leave and IDs — sourced in how to apply and requirements. Skill work can start now. Do not invent a date while you wait; see the schedule guide’s unverified-next-date handling.

A replacement habit for each

A month wasted, written as a diary (so you can refuse it)

Week 1: downloaded four reviewers, highlighted Verbal. Week 2: switched to a “better” Numerical compilation, no timer. Week 3: sat a leaked-item PDF, felt dirty and confused. Week 4: panic GI cram, no sleep, one mock at 1 a.m., 41% , concluded “I’m not a CSE person.” None of those weeks produced a three-topic sticky or a skip rule. The month was busy. It was not a review.

The replacement month is uglier on Instagram and kinder on the paper: diagnostic, three leaks, timers, sleep, one mock that you treat as a gym.

If you already lost a month, you did not lose the exam

Restart with a diagnostic this week, not with a new compilation. Write three leaks. Put a timer on 25 minutes tonight. That is a different month, even if the calendar says you “wasted” August. Shame wants a new PDF. Skill wants the sticky note.

Is switching reviewers always a mistake? Switching once because the first source had no explanations can be rational. Switching every Sunday is a reset addiction.

Is a leaked PDF ever “just for extra practice”? No. It is a legal/ethical mess and it trains the wrong items. Use original banks.

Should I quit GI until Verbal is perfect? No. Tiny GI retrieval can live beside Verbal. Perfect sequencing of subtests is another delay tactic.
